literally it means a herb "with hundreds of roots."
it actually mirrors or replicates the human nature.
though all the sages teach us not to stick to the mundane and profane worldly cravings, still we find it quite impossible to unroot ourselves.

because we have hundreds of roots which went almost deep into everything temporal and effemeral.
